The Journey Must Continue
Monday Sep 28, 2020
Monday Sep 28, 2020
This past week has been difficult for many of us as the African American community continues to bear the pain and unfairness of our "Justice" system. A lot has happened this year from Ahmaud Aubrey, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and the many other names that get silenced. It shows you the value of black life.
How about not getting the job you are well qualified for because of your hair texture! We are in the year 2020 and we are still fighting for a voice in a county that was built on the backs of our Ancestors.
In this episode, I share my thoughts and feelings on the social and economical injustice we face on a daily basis. I also share how we (especially the black woman) must support, praise, and validate each other because we are the most under-protected but yet the most powerful influencer on the planet. This episode is in no order, just me expressing my thoughts and feelings.

Health Talk with Mia Hopkins
Monday Jun 15, 2020
Monday Jun 15, 2020
I know the podcast is Natural Hair Education but let’s be clear, hair is a very important part of our lives, but its not the only thing we need to pay attention to. I love the idea that as women, we need to be more loving and caring of ourselves, so from time to time, I will share non-hair relevant topics on the show so that we can continue to learn and take care of our Queedoms.
Today’s episode is titled: "Health Talk" with Mia Hopkins
This is the perfect time to learn and adopt healthy eating habits. Mia's health journey began in 2016 after battling and winning the fight against breast cancer. She knew she had to do more to beat the fight of her then declining health. She adopted veganism and then incorporated organic cold press juice.
From there she created two businesses: Natural Vegan Soul, LLC, and Alive Organic Cold Press Juice, LLC where her goal is to help as many people as possible make positive food choices before they get the diagnosis.

The Salon Experience Due To COVID19
Monday May 25, 2020
Monday May 25, 2020
This is the beginning of Season two, and in this episode, I discuss some changes that are taking place in the Beauty Industry. COVID19 had literally changed lives and the way we normally do things. As a beauty professional and beauty school owner, there are certain precautions that have to be made in order to ensure safety stylists, students, and clients.
I pose two questions:
1. As a beauty professional what will you as a stylist need to do to create the confidence your clients will need?
2. Clients what will you expect from your stylist?
I ask these two questions because many States have opened up Beauty Salons and Barbershops and there is a certain level of responsibility we must maintain to keep the spread of COVID19 at bay. Michigan Board of Cosmetology has not yet released any policies surrounding COVID19 and the safety of salons. Michigan salons and Barbershops have not yet opened either. However, when they do open, I am curious to know how will they proceed with accepting clients.
I also want to know what will clients expect from their Beauty professionals. Will they be looking for license and sanitation protocol from their stylist? What are clients looking for to give them the confidence to return to the salon.
One thing I know for sure is that Beauty professionals have done intense training in Infection Control, Sanitation Practices, and Disinfection Methods in beauty school, so for the professionals that will get back to work, I know they will know how to handle their environments. On the flip side, there are many people that not wanting the World to open back up and I can respect that. However, the work we do is essential and many people need the connection and outlet to help themselves feel beautiful on the outside.
Whatever one chooses to do, safety should be #1!
In this episode I share "10 COVID-19 Standard Practice Policy" procedures that can be implemented when the student and stylist return. I have also included these Standard Polices in my FREE EBook "5 Principles to Understanding and Performing Natural Hair Care Services" which can be downloaded here
If you are back at work, do the necessary steps to make sure you and your clients are safe. Download the FREE Ebook to learn a few tips on Natural Hair Care and also 10 COVID10 Standard Practice Policies.

Redefining Beauty From The Inside Out
Monday May 11, 2020
Monday May 11, 2020
To end Season 1 on the Natural Hair Education Podcast I wanted to speak to you about "Redefining Beauty From The Inside Out". Beauty starts on the inside and radiates on the outside, but many of us are focused on covering and masking the outside. Our skin and hair are a direct reflection of the things we put in our body so nutrition plays a huge factor in this.
The wholistic approach to beauty is lacking. Yes, you can wear makeup, wigs, and extension to enhance the beauty that we were blessed with, but what happens when you look in the mirror and fail to see the true beauty you possess? What happens when you turn to the media to try to find your identity? What happens when our daughters are searching to find themselves in society?
As Beauty professionals, we have a responsibility to nurture the whole client. To encourage them to do the work that it requires to have a healthy body and mind. When we work on your crown, we know when there are internal issues going on. We know the effects of different types of medication, stress, and a bad diet. We can see it, but how many of us have the real conversations with our clients and inform them of these factors?
Redefining beauty takes a wholistic approach to you doing the work to heal from the inside out. Working on the "Queendom Pillars" can lead you in the direction of self-appreciation and most importantly self-love. Here are the pillar:
- Body
- Mind
- Spirit
- Space
- Money
Ladies, remember you are beautiful the way God made you. You are perfect as you are. You are a direct reflection of your Creator. Let's begin to learn to love ourselves from the inside out and watch how your life begins to radiate and the people around you will begin to see you glow.
As I conclude Season 1 I want to say thank you for listening, subscribing, and your comments. I appreciate you all so much. Season 2 will be dedicated to beauty school students and professionals but you are still allowed to listen. You will definitely learn a lot as your expectations for your professional become more apparent.
