CURLē w/ Mona El-Gharby
Monday Feb 14, 2022
Monday Feb 14, 2022
This week's episode is all about CURLē Beauty. Today marks CURLē Beauty one year anniversary. Mona El-Gharby is the founder of this amazing product. She recently did a campaign called "Love Your Roots." This is a multi-media campaign aimed at empowering curly hair individuals.
In this episode, we talk about Mona's curly hair journey and how the company was founded.
Mona, the founder of CURLē! Ten years ago this company was a dream.
My mission behind CURLē has always been simple: to reframe natural hair as elegant and luxurious in ALL contexts.
As an Egyptian American born and raised in Dallas, I had my own struggles with my curl journey. Growing up, I came to understand the beauty and uniqueness of curly hair. Growing up, the cultural norms made curly hair "exotic", "wild", "crazy", but never "elegant" or "sophisticated". As a middle schooler, my dream was to change that narrative. In that journey, I learned about the importance of premium ingredients for my scalp and hair health.
My passion for finding the best ingredients and products that were entirely good for curly hair in the short and long run grew in college when I studied Biochemistry, Business, and Human Rights. I learned the injustices around natural hair and the science behind the most beneficial products and soon found myself with a business idea- a company that prioritized the natural crown like never before.
CURLē is about the empowerment of natural hair and changing the narrative. It's about reshaping big natural hair as being elegant not just in a VOGUE magazine, but in a corporate room, not having to straighten it for a high executive meeting or news reporting. We all have a unique curly hair journey and at CURLē we learn and love each and every one. We strive to empower you to take charge of your natural hair by offering you solutions to your curly hair problems.
Natural hair is unique and beautiful in ALL contexts, together we can push this movement and reshape the narrative around natural hair.

I toggled back and forth on whether I should release this episode or not, but I'm glad that I did. This episode is not about natural hair but about a black woman that stayed committed to her desire of becoming a beauty educator and opening her own school.
By being in the beauty school space I wanted to share with you an African American woman who defeated the odds and pushed past obstacles to get exactly what she wanted.

I don't know about you, but there are times when I get consumed by Social Media. One of my favorite pages to watch is Vicky Shelton, owner of Kinhairitage Salon in Houston, TX.
Vicky does an excellent job at providing both, the client and stylist with the education they can use to benefit their natural hair experience, and she does it well on her Instagram page Kinhairitage.
In this episode, I talk with Vicky about her transition from New Jersey to Houston, the switch from a natural hair stylist to now the "Loc Doula", how she learned "natural hair styling" and how she was taught by some of the natural hair communities trailblazers in the industry.

Natural Hair Education on YouTube
Monday Jan 03, 2022
Monday Jan 03, 2022
Welcome to 2022! I pray that this year brings your good health and great wealth!
This year we are taking Natural Hair Education Podcast to YouTube. It has always been a desire of mine, but the fear of being in front of the camera in front or potentially thousands of people kept be paralyzed.
This year I am walking in clarity, confidence and courage.
Many years ago I started a YouTube channel "Braiding Academy" where I taught braiding styles and techniques. Over the years I stop working on that project to focus on growing our Beauty School. Since then, we have moved locations, offered more programs and grew our enrollment. While working in the beauty school for the last 20 years, I've noticed a gap in the lack of natural hair education. I then created Natural Hair Education to help beauty school students, salon professionals and natural hair enthusiastic develop their skill and education in textured hair training and so far I am pretty proud and excited with the individuals I have been able to help.
This year I will continue to create programs but I will so bring Natural Hair Education to YouTube. Now you will be able to visually watch the podcast and learn more about the guest that we interview. I hope this is exciting for you as it is for me.

All Natural Kinks with AJ Watkins
Monday Nov 29, 2021
Monday Nov 29, 2021
Have you ever heard the statement "Black hair don't grown long" or "my hair grows to a certain length and stop". Well, todays guest AJ Watkins had that same frustration just before she stared on a journey to learn how to grow her hair long.
AJ Watkins has been a part of the natural hair community for over 20 years. During her first year of college in 2007, her fascination and excitement for hair-care began to blossom. Throughout her childhood, she dreamed of having long, flowing natural hair. Sadly, the length of her hair did not seem to grow. She refused to believe the myth of "black girls can't grow long hair", and was determined to figure out the hair growth formula for her coarse, tightly coiled textured hair.
She then spent the next 9 years experimenting with natural oils, products, and styles to develop a successful hair growth process. In 2017, she created a natural hair-care product line and hair education platform that incorporated the techniques needed to grow curly and kinky textured hair. Now, she is able to share these handmade products worldwide to help others reach their hair length goals.
Make sure to check her out! and be sure to use code "education" for your discount.

4thAveMarket with Salim Holder
Monday Oct 04, 2021
Monday Oct 04, 2021
In today's episode, I had the honor to discuss 4thAveMarket," a consumer-centric platform striving to bridge the gap between buyers and sellers providing access to brands made for us and by us— supporting the product innovators, styling professionals, and influencers who seek to fulfill the needs of the underserved market".
CEO of 4thAveMarket, Salim Holder shares with us valuable information on the importance of driving greater transparency, accountability, and ownership among the Black community. This can result in greater reinvestment back into our own community.
Salim also shares that we drive 85% of sales in the hair-care industry, but we are 7% of store owners and how we can start to think outside the box by taking on roles and creating manufacturing and distribution companies to support the black hair care companies.
The category captain(s) and unfair business practices are just as alive today as they were decades ago. WIth Salim's background and experience working with Fortune 500 brands, he has witnessed the power big box brand companies have and gives his insight on the black hair care market.
This episode will benefit consumers as well as those that are in the space of creating skin and hair care lines so be sure to check them out.
