Monday Sep 30, 2024
Monday Sep 30, 2024
In this weeks episode, I share a brief story of a previous clients that reached out for a consultation due to his scalp concerns.
I talk about the consultation, my recommendations and the importance of Salon sanitation and infection control practices. I also breakdown the differences between Seborrhea Dermatitis and Eczema.
This episode is recommended to the client and stylist. As a salon professional we can always be open to listening to our clients and their concerns, as we have a responsibility to ourselves and clients to keep our work areas and tools clean and sanitized to prevent the spread of bacteria and viruses.
As clients, I ask that you communicate with your stylist, ask questions.

The Role of Diet & Health in Hair Care
Monday Sep 02, 2024
Monday Sep 02, 2024
I wanted to spend some time discussing the role of diet and health in hair care. I believe we know that there is a correlation between the diet and health and hair care, but I wanted to really do in depth to share the overall benefits of optimum health and nurtrition.
In the episode I start with understanding the hair structor as this will allow you to understand how diet, hydration and overall health impact hair health. I talk about the 3 layers of a single hair strand, the role of protein and keratin and foods that are rich in proteins. I also share essential nutrients such as the most impactful vitamins and minerals needed for healthy hair follicles and hair.
Below are a list of proteins, vitamins and minerals I talked about in the episode.
Protein:
- Lean Meats: Chicken, turkey, and lean cuts of beef are excellent sources of high-quality protein. They provide the essential amino acids needed for keratin production and overall hair health.
- Eggs: Eggs are a complete protein source, meaning they contain all the essential amino acids your body needs. They are also rich in biotin, a B-vitamin that plays a crucial role in hair growth and health.
- Legumes: Beans, lentils, and chickpeas are great plant-based sources of protein. They also contain iron and zinc, minerals that support hair strength and growth.
- Fish: Salmon, mackerel, and tuna are not only rich in protein but also contain omega-3 fatty acids, which help keep the scalp healthy and hair moisturized.
- Dairy Products: Milk, yogurt, and cheese are good sources of protein, along with other essential nutrients like calcium and vitamin D, which contribute to overall hair health.
- Nuts and Seeds: Almonds, walnuts, and sunflower seeds provide protein, along with healthy fats and vitamins that support hair strength and shine.
- Soy Products: Tofu, tempeh, and soy milk are excellent plant-based protein sources that can help support hair health, especially for those following a vegetarian or vegan diet.
Vitamins:
- Vitamin A: Promotes scalp health by encouraging sebum production. Foods: Sweet potatoes, carrots, spinach.
- Vitamin B: Biotin (B7) Important for hair growth and preventing loss
- Vitamin C: Helps in collagen production, crucial for hair strength. Foods: Citrus fruits, berries, and bell peppers.
- Vitamin D: Linked to hair follicle health. Foods: Fatty fish, fortified foods, and sunlight exposure.
- Vitamin E: Protects hair from oxidative stress. Foods: Nuts, seeds, and leafy greens.
Minerals:
- Iron: Prevents hair loss by aiding in red blood cell production. Foods: Red meat, lentils, and spinach.
- Zinc: Supports hair repair and growth. Foods: Nuts, seeds, and whole grains.
- Magnesium: Helps with protein synthesis which is helpful for hair structure.

The Four Naturals Hair Treatment w/Shalita Grant
Monday Mar 06, 2023
Monday Mar 06, 2023
Shalita Grant has created a revolutionizing hair treatment that addresses hair concerns such as dryness, breakage, loss of retention and more. Her journey of being in the entertainment industry and the lack of textured hair education resulted in her experiencing hair loss, hair breakage and hair discrimination. This led her on a journey to create a treatment made of all natural ingredients that would address many hair concerns of textured hair.
"In my quest to solve my own Type 4 hair care issues like fragility, shedding, lack of curl definition, and lack of growth retention, I gave myself one goal: All of my ingredients must come from nature. After scouring the web for research, I learned about ancient all-natural ingredients and hair care practices from India and North Africa. I landed on using henna powder – which became the cornerstone ingredient for my product. I was shocked after my first treatment; after the third, I was madly in love with my new gorgeously defined type 4 curls. I knew I wasn’t the only black woman who had experienced hair discrimination. So I created Four Naturals Hair to ensure my community could heal these hair woes and become a staple in black women’s hair care.

Type 4 hair is considered the least desirable hair type. And even though the natural-hair movement is the largest and most positive it has ever been – women and men with Type 4 hair agree that it’s hard to keep our hair healthy. We would agree that if our hair sheds, is easily prone to damage, hard to detangle, suffering years-long growth plateaus, hair that won’t cooperate with water (the list goes on) isn’t the most desirable to care for. Deep conditioners don’t address porosity issues, Chemical relaxers never fixed thin fraying ends, and none of our hairstyles or products addresses our shedding or lack of growth retention."

Pretty Hair Strands w/Courtney Bradshaw
Monday Apr 11, 2022
Monday Apr 11, 2022
Thank you for tuning in to another episode. This week I have a conversation with Courtney Bradshaw, CEO of Pretty Hair Strands Hair Products.
Courtney Bradshaw is the creator of Pretty Strands Hair Products. She is a mother of 4, licensed cosmetologist, and innovator. Pretty Strands Hair oil, the first born baby of the line, was birthed from a need. Her daughter, who was a toddler at the time, suffered from a severe case of eczema. The eczema not only affected her skin, but her scalp as well. All of the products she used made the problem worse. Not being able to find relief from existing products, Courtney was often disappointed. Not realizing that her background of being a cosmetologist and the love for science had already prepared her for the creation of her very own products. She began her journey. Creating an amazing blend of oils that help heal her daughter's scalp and hair. When her family and friends witnessed the miraculous results, she was forced to share this oil with others. She is now living her life with the purpose of helping people with their hair issues with the best quality hair care products. She's helping people have the Pretty strands they always wanted.
